Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY) on Monday dismissed critics who claim Republican senators are being unreasonable by demanding further financial disclosures from defense secretary nominee Chuck Hagel.
“This is somebody who’s going to be advising the President of the United States on using force, sending troops to war,” Barrasso told MSNBC. “It’s important that the secretary of defense be somebody fully vetted. I still have significant questions about Chuck Hagel’s ability to do this job, and I want to make sure that the American people get to know for sure if he’s the right choice. I believe he is not the right choice. I plan to vote against him.”
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) on Sunday threatened to place holds on the nominations of Hagel and John Brennan, President Obama’s pick to head the CIA. “No confirmation without information,” he said on CBS’ “Face the Nation.”
