Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) said Sunday that Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ) had assured Senate leadership that there is “no substance” to an inquiry into his entanglements with an embattled donor in Florida, including a trip to the Dominican Republic in which Menendez has been accused of visiting prostitutes.
“Sen. Menendez has give us his assurance that there is no substance in these charges,” Durbin said on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” responding to whether Menendez should be allowed to keep his chairmanship of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. “It’s being looked at by the ethics committee and of course I can’t comment beyond that.”
