Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) on Tuesday compared Newark Mayor Cory Booker, who is openly mulling a run for Lautenberg’s seat, to one of his children who deserves a “spanking” for being disrespectful, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
“I have four children, I love each one of them. I can’t tell (you) that one of them wasn’t occasionally disrespectful, so I gave them a spanking and everything was OK,” Lautenberg said with a smile in his first public comments since Booker announced he was considering a run for Senate.
Lautenberg said Booker, who has formed an exploratory committee, is “entitled” to run. He would not say whether he would seek re-election in 2014.
