David Axelrod, a former top adviser on President Obama’s 2008 and 2012 campaigns, responded to National Rifle Association executive vice president Wayne LaPierre’s Friday morning press conference with a sharply worded missive on Twitter:

LaPierre’s rant was truly astonishing.At a moment that demanded reflection, he sprayed rhetorical shots around the room.
