The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has given Tesla Motors’ Model S 60 kilowatt-hour battery pack version a mile-per-gallon equivalent rating of 95 MPGe, combined city and highway driving, TreeHugger reported Tuesday. That tops the 89 MPGe the EPA found for the 85-kilowatt hour battery pack. But the EPA found that in both cases, Tesla’s new EVs came in below the advertised charge drive distance: 208 miles for the 60 kWh model and 265 for the 80-kWh model, compared to Tesla’s advertised 230 and 300 mile ranges at 55 miles-per-hour, respectively.
The move comes on the heels of the Tesla Model S winning several notable magazine awards for car of the year for 2013 — not just electric vehicle, all cars, gas-guzzlers included.
