President Obama visited the home of a middle class family in Falls Church, Virginia on Thursday as part of his “#My2K” public outreach on tax cuts in the so-called fiscal cliff negotiations in Washington, per a White House pool report.
Obama met with Tiffany Santana, a high school English teacher, who responded to an email by the White House that led to the event, along with her parents and husband Richard Santana, who works for a local auto dealership.
Sitting with the family around a round kitchen table, Obama discussed the impact on the Santanas should Congress fail to extend middle class tax cuts.
“They have dreams and ambitions, they have a beautiful 6 year old son Noah,” Obama said, according to the pool report. “They’re keeping it together, they’re working hard, they’re meeting their responsibilities. For them to be burdened unnecessarily because Democrats and Republicans aren’t coming together to solve those problems gives you a sense of the costs on personal terms.”
Obama also reiterated his insistance that he would not sign any deal brokered with Republicans that would extend Bush era tax rates on the top two percent of earners.
