Jill Kelley, the Tampa woman tied to the scandal that brought down former CIA Director David Petraeus, is losing the “honorary consul” title that had been granted to her by South Korea, the Tampa Bay Times reported Tuesday.
“It’s not suitable to the status of honorary consul that (she) sought to be involved in commercial projects and peddle influence,” South Korean Deputy Foreign Minister Kim Kyou-hyun said Monday in Washington D.C., according to the Yonhap News Agency.
A few months ago, Kelley reportedly tried to turn her title into an $80 million fee for setting up a business deal. More recently, in the days after the Petraeus scandal broke, Kelley invoked her title during a call to 911 to complain about reporters and other people on her lawn.
“You know,” Kelley told a 911 dispatcher. “I don’t know if by any chance, because I’m an honorary consul general, so I have inviolability [sic], so they should not be able to cross my property.”
