Top Romney adviser Kevin Madden said that it’s difficult to talk about the specifics of a tax plan in a debate format in an appearance on “CBS This Morning” Wednesday. Madden said that there would be specifics about “what tax reform looks like,” but declined to say that Romney would offer anything new about his plan in Wednesday night’s debate.
“It’s hard to get into a whole lot of specifics particularly when you’re talking about something as complex as all the deductions you would go through as part of tax reform,” Madden said. “But on the issue of tax reform, Gov. Romney will offer a great deal of specifics about what he would do.”
Madden described what kinds of “specifics” Romney might discuss in the debate:
“But I think a lot of what the specifics that you’re talking about as far as what tax reform looks like. Whether it’s lowering the corporate rate in order to make sure we’re more competitive as an economy in this global marketplace but also lowering [the] middle class tax burden, broadening the base and making the American economy [is] more competitive as a result, I think that you’ll hear a great deal of specifics. Most importantly you’ll hear the contrast because the president’s reforms haven’t been enough to help the economy.”
