Mitt Romney responded to the lackluster August jobs report Friday morning, and President Obama’s Democratic convention speech the night before, by accusing Obama of not having kept any of his promises at all.
“And all he said last night was the same as what he said four years ago which — by the way, he made a lot of promises four years ago,” Romney told reporters on an airport tarmac in Sioux City, Iowa. “Can you think of any of those promises that was met?”
“I mean, he was gonna create jobs, he hasn’t; lower unemployment, he hasn’t. Rising take-home pay — it’s gone down. Cut the cost of health insurance by $2,500 — it’s gone up $2,500. Create new businesses? We’re at a 30-year low. Cut the deficit in half — the deficit is double what it was. The president has been unable to deliver on virtually any of the promises he made when he ran for office four years ago. The idea that the American people are going to accept the same promises again would be one that I think would be flying in the face of America’s ability to understand what’s in their best interest.”
In fact, Obama has kept a variety of promises, most notably in passing health care reform, both increasing the U.S. commitment in Afghanistan and establishing a timeline for withdrawal, and mobilizing the U.S. military to find Osama bin Laden.
