Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-OK) would not join most of the Republican Party in urging Rep. Todd Akin to leave the Missouri Senate race.
“If I were in that position, and a majority of people in my state — if my state were Missouri — had voted me in, I would be hard-pressed to say, ‘I’m going to get out because of some people pushing that real hard,'” Inhofe told Politico Tuesday at the Republican convention.
Inhofe said he believes Akin can still win: “As time goes by, people will start thinking, he made one gaffe, it’s a bad one, he shouldn’t have done it. But after all, we have a United States senator that needs to be replaced — and that’s what a majority of people will say. … I’m not part of the withdrawal group.”
