Mitt Romney promised to replace the health care law with “a real reform of our health care system” and outlined what that would look like in his statement on the Supreme Court’s ruling Thursday.
Romney said that reform must allow people to keep their current insurance if they want to keep it. “Having 20 million people — up to that number of people — lose the insurance they want is simply unacceptable,” Romney said.
Second, Romney affirmed one of the most popular provisions of the existing act — the fact that insurance companies cannot discriminate against people with pre-existing conditions. We must “make sure that those people who have pre-existing conditions know that they will be able to be insured, and they will not lose their insurance,” Romney said.
Romney also said he would help states provide access to health care as well as lower costs of health care and insurance overall. “It’s becoming prohibitively expensive,” he said.
