The office of Turkish Prime Minister Recap Erdogan has released a statement saying that it is understood Syria is responsible for shooting down a Turkish military jet on Friday. Erdogan’s office added that Turkey would act decisively, and that the fate of the two airmen on the plane was unknown. A search involving both Syrian and Turkish vessels is currently underway.
Turkish radio operators lost contact with the jet early Friday morning, and reports indicate that it was downed in the Mediterranean, near Syria. Erdogan denied earlier reports that Syria had “expressed regret” for the attack.
