Donald Trump wants to change the name of the conspiracy theory that President Obama was not born in the U.S. from the “birther movement” to the “place-of-birth movement.” From Politico:
Trump, for one, said he plans to continue talking about what he calls “the place-of-birth issue.” (“I think the word ‘birther’ is a derogatory term, created by a certain group in the media,” he explained.)
Last year, at the height of Trump’s focus on the president’s place of birth, he explained to Bill O’Reilly that the term “birther” dismisses the seriousness of the issue. From Mediaite on March 30, 2011:
Trump also noted that he personally hates the (often derogatory) term “birther” because many of those calling for Obama’s birth certificate are actually “really quality people who just want the truth.”
