SOPA Sponsor’s Office Says Bill Is Still Dead

Responding to reports that lawmakers may be gearing up to introduce new legislation to combat online piracy or revive the widely-criticized Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), the office of SOPA’s original sponsor, Rep. Lamar Smith, told TPM that the bill remains dead in the water.

“Nothing new is happening with SOPA – zero movement and no discussions at this time,” a staffer for Smith told TPM in a statement, before referring us back to a release in January announcing that SOPA would be postponed “until there is agreement on a wider solution.”
