Google can buy phone company Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion without violating antitrust laws, European Union officials announced on Monday, Reuters reported. However, officials said they would remain vigilant of the merger of the two companies and were still concerned that Google could use Motorla patents to give it an unfair edge in promoting Google’s Android mobile operating system. The merger, which was announced in August, still needs to get approval from authorities in the U.S., Israel, China and Taiwan. The U.S. Justice Department is widely anticipated to sign off on the deal, according to Bloomberg.
