Michael Reagan, the conservative son of the 40th president, has spoken in defense of Newt Gingrich’s position on illegal immigration, which some Republican presidential candidates have equated to amnesty. In an interview today with Fox News’s Megyn Kelly, Reagan said his dad would have agreed that illegal immigrants who have been in the U.S. for many years should not be summarily deported.
“Ronald Reagan was someone who really believed in the family,” Reagan said. “He would find another way — a more humane way, if you will — to deal with this issue.”
