In a statement released Friday morning about the Fort Hood shootings, the NRCC’s candidate for a House seat in Florida claimed that “terrorists are infiltrating the military.”
“This enemy preys on downtrodden soldiers and teaches them extremism will lift them up,” said retired Col. Allen West, according to the Huffington Post. “Our soldiers are being brainwashed.”
The Hill reports that he also called on the military to do more “to prevent Islamic extremism from penetrating our bases.”
“The most importantly thing right now is that we objectively assess this situation,” West said. “But it is imperative that we take steps to make sure this does not happen again.”
According to the Huffington Post, West was forced to retire in 2003 amid allegations that he assaulted an Iraqi detainee.
