Vice President-elect Kamala Harris signaled on Monday night that she was unfazed by her soon-to-be former GOP Senate colleagues’ crusade to overturn her and President-elect Joe Biden’s electoral victory on Wednesday.
After Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and more than 10 other Republican senators vowed to collectively disrupt Congress’ formal certification of the Electoral College votes, MSNBC asked Harris if she saw the inevitably doomed gambit as an active coup attempt.
“Let me just tell you something: We are going to be inaugurated. Period,” Harris said with a laugh.
The vice president-elect struck a diplomatic tone when CBS News reporter Tim Perry asked how she and Biden expected to work with the GOP senators who still refuse to acknowledge the election results.
“We are committed to working with all leaders regardless of who they voted for,” Harris replied.
Cruz announced on Saturday that he and 10 other GOP senators would object to the certification process and demand an “emergency audit” of the results, citing President Donald Trump’s falsehoods about voter fraud.
Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R-GA), who is defending her seat in the Georgia Senate runoffs on Tuesday, and Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) have also pledged to object to certification.
Additionally, Trump is actively pressuring Vice President Mike Pence, who will oversee the proceedings on Wednesday, to somehow nullify the votes on his behalf.
However, any attempt to overturn the Electoral College vote results has virtually no chance of succeeding.

Members of Congress objecting to the Electoral College tally are pandering to Trump’s base, many out of fear of being primaried or other various negative consequences for failing to do so. They don’t have principled objections, they’re craven, mercenary objections.
So, there is every reason to believe whatever it is that is motivating them to act this way will continue to motivate them after Biden is inaugurated. Whatever it is they fear, whatever it is they think they have to gain by refusing to acknowledge Biden as President, will remain after 1/20/21.
We’re in for many years of stalemate, filibustering, investigations and Mitch McConnell bottling up every single thing Biden and Harris try to accomplish. The nation won’t move forward in any appreciable way. We’ll be lucky to look back in 2024 and be happy we managed to merely tread water, as opposed to sinking and drowning.
You know, I’d almost be tempted to agree to their idiotic “emergency audit” since it won’t find anything. In fact, even if there were actual fraud, you wouldn’t be able to complete an investigation in 10 days anyway. Call their bluff…Nah…
