Obama Nominates Bush Spox Perino For Administration Spot

Fmr. Bush Press Sec. Dana Perino

President Obama yesterday nominated Dana Perino, former press secretary for President George W. Bush, for a spot on the Broadcasting Board of Governors.

The board oversees U.S. international civilian broadcasting entities, including Voice of America, Radio Free Europe and Radio Free Asia, among others. Its mission is “to promote freedom and democracy and enhance understanding.” Board members are responsible for “evaluating the mission and operation of its broadcast entities; assessing the quality, effectiveness, and professional integrity of its broadcasters; and determining the addition or deletion of language services,” according to the agency’s web site.

Perino is now a Fox News contributor and a counselor for public relations firm Burson-Marsteller. Perino and other nominees to the board must be confirmed by the Senate.

The taxpayer-funded agency had a budget of about $717.4 million in 2009.
