Election Day’s Over, But Counting In Key States Has a Way’s To Go

As Tuesday night turned to Wednesday morning and elections workers across the country tallied votes for president of the United States, a remarkably familiar state of play emerged.

The fallen Democratic “Blue Wall” that delivered Donald Trump’s victory in 2016 — Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania — remained absolutely crucial for Trump in 2020. Those states are still counting votes, and it was not clear early Wednesday whether their preference would be clear within the day.

Florida, which could have spelled a near certain Biden victory, fell again for Trump. But potential pick-ups for Biden complicated the map: He’s looking good in Arizona, and may even have a shot in Georgia and North Carolina, depending on outstanding votes. He even picked up a single electoral college vote in Nebraska’s Second Congressional District.

Biden, true to form, encouraged supporters and urged them to be patient and wait for all votes to be counted. And Trump, of course, rolled out a familiar, false refrain, accusing Democrats of trying to “STEAL” the election by counting all of those votes.

And so, we wait.

Trump got two votes and Gary Johnson got one in 2016. SIGNS OF A TREND???

  2. Well, votes for the Dems went up from 4 for HRC to 5 for Biden… And the Trumpers completely disappeared.

Sign of a trend?? One may hope.

  4. Seriously. And over here I won’t be able to get even the first results until at least 6 a.m. (exit polls mean nothing this year…). I’m not going to be able to sleep!
