The Washington, D.C. city council has just voted, 11 to 2, to legalize gay marriage.
Mayor Adrian Fenty said he will sign the bill.
The bill, like all city legislation, will now go to Congress for review. If Congress doesn’t reject or change the bill, the city is expected to begin issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples in March.
