Scott Brown: ‘I’m Not From Around Here. I’m From Massachusetts’
Dana Milbank of the Washington Post reports that after Sen. Scott Brown (R-MA) became the first vote for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s (D-NV) jobs bill, he quickly left the chamber and was then surrounded by reporters in the hallway. “I’m not from around here,” said Brown. “I’m from Massachusetts.”
Obama’s Day Ahead
President Obama and Vice PResident Biden will receive the presidential daily briefing at 9:30 a.m. ET, and the economic daily briefing at 10 a.m. ET. Obama will meet with senior advisers at 10:45 a.m. ET. Obama and Biden will have lunch at 12:15 p.m. ET. Obama will meet at 3 p.m. ET with U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk. Obama and Biden will meet at 4:30 p.m. ET with Secretary of Defense Robert Gates. Obama will have dinner with business leaders at 6:45 p.m. ET.
Biden’s Day Ahead
Vice President Biden hosted a 7:45 a.m. ET breakfast meeting with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, at the Naval Observatory. Afterwards, Biden will attend President Obama’s morning briefings, as listed above. He will have lunch with Obama at 12:15 p.m. ET. Then at 1:15 p.m. ET, Biden will host a conference call with mayors form across the country, to discuss stimulus implementation. At 4:30 p.m. ET, he will meet with President Obama and Secretary of Defense Robert Gates.
Steele’s Spending Angers Donors
Politico reports that Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele is being criticized for large expenses that he’s incurred on items such as private planes, limousines and catering. “Michael Steele is an imperial chairman,” said an anonymous longtime Republican fundraiser. “He flies in private aircraft. He drives in private cars. He has private consultants that are paid ridiculous retainers. He fancies himself a presidential candidate and wants all of the trappings and gets them by using other people’s money.”
Senate Sitting On 290 Bills Already Passed By House
The Hill reports that House Democrats have compiled a list of 290 bills that have passed in the House, but are stalled in the Senate. “The Speaker believes that the filibuster has its place, but clearly Senate Republicans are taking what was once a rare procedural move and abusing it to the detriment of progress for America’s working families,” said Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill.
Romney Endorses McCain For Reelection To Senate
Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), who is facing a challenge int he Republican primary from former Rep. J.D. Hayworth, has been endorsed for reelection by his chief rival int he 2008 presidential primaries, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. “Senator McCain’s record of service and sacrifice for America is honored by all,” Romney said in a statement. “But I believe that it is his core values of courage, faith and honor – forged in battle and confirmed by a lifetime of service to America – that make Senator McCain’s leadership in the United States Senate so necessary in these perilous times.”
Rubio To Visit South Carolina
Senate candidate Marco Rubio (R-FL), who has a lead in the Republican primary over the more moderate Gov. Charlie Crist, is already hitting the road to a key presidential primary state. Rubio will be traveling to South Carolina in March, to tour the state along with a prominent supporter of his, Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC)
