Historically, pandemics have forced humans to break with the past and imagine their world anew. This one is no different. It is a portal, a gateway between one world and the next.

We can choose to walk through it, dragging the carcasses of our prejudice and hatred, our avarice, our data banks and dead ideas, our dead rivers and smoky skies behind us. *Or we can walk through lightly, with little luggage, ready to imagine another world. And ready to fight for it.

Trump’s mishandling of the pandemic is mainly not due to incompetence. It’s intentional. On the one hand he wants to suppress the numbers on people who’ve come down with the virus, thus the lack of tests, and on the other hand he’s punishing parts of the country that he views as anti-Trump, thus the lack of masks and other PPE, and ventilators. He WANTS people to die, but only certain people. He just doesn’t want it to be publicized. The man is ferociously venal and the only thing that moves him more than the need for adoration is his thirst for revenge. DON’T WATCH THIS DISGUSTING PR STUNT!
