Perkins: GOP Isn’t The Only Game In Town — There’s Always The Tea Party…

Family Research Council president Tony Perkins

Family Research Council President Tony Perkins seems to be expanding his criticism of the RNC to include the entire Republican Party, telling ABC’s Top Line today that “Republicans are not the only game in town.”

I think the Republicans have to realize they’re not operating in a vacuum. Now, while Democrats may be in trouble coming into November’s election, the Republicans are not the only game in town.

The other game, it would seem, is the Tea Party.

“As we see the Tea Party movement taking on a life of its own, the Republicans have some competition, which I think is actually good for the conservative vote,” Perkins said. “And they’re going to have to be responsible with how they spend their money, they’re going to have to be I think very measured in their message, and that they are embracing a conservative message.”

This isn’t the first time in recent days that Perkins has criticized Republicans. Last week, he said on MSNBC that the RNC is “tone deaf” to social conservatives and “does not reflect the values of the folks we represent across the country.” He also asked donors to give to individual candidates instead of to the struggling RNC.
