A Facebook page that more than half a million people “like” seems to be implying that the page’s creator is praying for President Barack Obama to die this year.
The user, whose location is listed as Marysville, OH, uses this statement in place of a name:
DEAR LORD, THIS YEAR YOU TOOK MY FAVORITE ACTOR, PATRICK SWAYZIE. YOU TOOK MY FAVORITE ACTRESS, FARAH FAWCETT. YOU TOOK MY FAVORITE SINGER, MICHAEL JACKSON. I JUST WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW, MY FAVORITE PRESIDENT IS BARACK OBAMA. AMEN
This Facebook page has amassed more than 550,000 fans since its creation about two weeks ago — each of which has clicked a “Like” button on the page.
The user notes on the page’s wall that despite what the name suggests, “I just wanted to let some people who were wondering know that we are not really praying for the death of obama it is just some humor to show our disapproval of our current president.”
The same week this Facebook page was created, some members of the New Jersey Education Association sent out a memo with the same statement, except Gov. Chris Christie’s (R-NJ) name was used in place of President Obama’s.
It is unclear which came first, though CNN reported the memo on April 10, and the Facebook page was created on or before that day.
