Just as the public impeachment inquiry hearings wrapped on Thursday, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) sent a letter to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo seeking materials related to then-Vice President Joe Biden’s interactions with Ukrainian officials.
Graham is attempting to give credence to Republicans’ baseless conspiracy theory that Biden tried to get the top prosecutor in Ukraine removed to protect his son, Hunter, who was then serving on the board of a Ukrainian company.
Multiple witnesses in the inquiry have testified to the speciousness of the theory. Former special envoy to Ukraine Kurt Volker, a witness actually called by Republicans, called the allegations against the Bidens “self-serving and not credible.”
Graham himself once called Biden “as good a man as God ever created.”
Yet the senator is furthering a conspiracy theory peddled by President Donald Trump, Rudy Giuliani and the other major players in the Ukraine pressure campaign. According to reams of witness testimony and the White House’s own call memo, they tried to leverage military aid and a White House meeting in exchange for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announcing investigations into the Bidens and the 2016 election.

I don’t know why he is behaving like this, but history will be kinder to John C. Calhoun than to Lindsey Graham. At least Calhoun was honest about his treason.

He is consistently doing anything he can to help Trump. Putin and Trump must have some major dirt on him – something so bad it would affect his ability to get re-elected, even in SC.
He’s lost all claims to honor. He’s about as good an example of boot-licking lackey as you can get. And the question is what is it getting him?
This trial keeps coming back to me as a telling sign and important political moment.
