House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said in the hallway on her way out of a meeting with the Democratic caucus that she had not yet read the White House’s record of President Donald Trump’s call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, but intoned that “no one is above the law.”

“I haven’t seen it so I have just come from our own meeting,” Pelosi said. “But the transcript is — the fact is that the President of the United States, in breach of his constitutional responsibilities, has asked a foreign government to help him in his political campaign at the expense of our national security, as well as undermining the integrity of our elections. That cannot stand. He will be held accountable. No one is above the law.”

Pelosi announced an impeachment inquiry into Trump Tuesday evening.

  1. I am assuming its because she read the WB complaint - or at least knows the full details of what is in it. There’s no freaking way she finally changed her mind on impeachment based on rumors. No way.

Dems need to repeat this over and over again for the next year. Simple and effective because it’s true. And pretty goddamn fundamental to the way the vast majority of Americans think, btw.

  3. No f’n passion. No sense of required urgency

Pelosi needs to step down and hand this fight over to someone whose moral compass needs not be calibrated depending on the shifting polarity of polls.

I’ll use John Lewis, a tower of integrity, as an example of someone who can speak to us with words our hearts cannot ignore. There are others who could lead us as well, but not Pelosi.

Pelosi enabled Trump in feeling free to do as pleases because of the way she regularly attacked Democrats who had dared mention impeachment. Her reticence to take on Trump has contributed to this disaster as much as her counterpart in the Senate, Mitch McConnell.

The Republicans are already turning the message into one where they are just defending an ally from renegade Joe Biden and his crooked son.

This is precisely the moment where we need someone who can act decisevly while projecting the urgency of action and the gravity of the threat we face. That person is not Pelosi. She must step aside.
