Obama Wants Billions More In Energy Tax Credits
The Washington Post reports: “President Obama will call Friday morning for Congress to pass $5 billion in energy manufacturing tax credits, according to a White House official. The statement will come during an appearance with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid on the campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. The event is the last of several that Obama has held this week to highlight the administration’s economic policies.”

President Obama will deliver remarks on the economy at 12:05 p.m. ET in Las Vegas, Nevada. He will depart from Las Vegas at 1:15 p.m. ET, arriving at Andrews Air Force Base at 5:20 p.m. ET, and back at the White House at 5:35 p.m. ET.
Biden’s Day Ahead
Vice President Biden will begin the day in Los Angeles, California. He will meet in the morning with senior advisers. In the afternoon he will tape an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. At 8:30 p.m. ET, he will attend an event for Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA). Afterwards, he will travel to Wilmington, Delaware.
Biden Takes On Role As Campaigner-In-Chief During Midterm Elections
The Hill reports: “Vice President Joe Biden has quietly taken over the role of campaigner-in-chief while President Barack Obama has juggled two wars, the national economic recovery and the biggest oil spill in U.S. history. Biden has participated in nearly 100 campaign events for Democratic candidates this election cycle.”
Gay Conservative Group Enters the Fray
CQ profiles the new gay conservative group GOProud, and the self-description of its chairman as “part of the ‘leave-me-alone’ coalition” on economic issues: “They contend, for instance, that this year’s health care overhaul could prompt a reduction in the number of private insurance plans offering domestic partner benefits. They argue that expanding gun rights is in their members’ best interest because that would allow them to defend themselves if attacked. And they advocate for Social Security ‘privatization,’ or allowing some money that gets set aside to be invested by future beneficiaries, on the grounds that doing so would make it easier for gay partners to inherit retirement assets.”
Senate Takes Action To Deal With Hoax E-Mails Announcing Senators’ Deaths
Roll Call reports: “The Senate Sergeant-at-Arms has started using an e-mail validation system and is asking news outlets to do so as well following a string of hoax e-mails sent to the media proclaiming the deaths of four Democratic Senators…’To help combat the problem of e-mail forgery, the Sergeant at Arms has implemented a commonly-accepted industry technology called sender policy framework (SPF) for the Senate,’ the memo reads. ‘This framework allows the senate.gov domain to specify what servers are allowed to send messages for users with senate.gov addresses, and allows recipients’ e-mail systems to automatically check inbound messages to validate that they originated from a server authorized for the sender’s e-mail address.'”
