The Commerce Department has fallen into disarray under Secretary Wilbur Ross, as he spends his time trying to curry the President’s favor and lacks the “stamina” to stay awake through meetings.

According to Politico, insiders at the Department say that Ross is usually absent, ignorant of the day-to-day goings on and prone to falling asleep during the few meetings with senior staff he does hold. His aides try to keep him from testifying on the Hill.

Meanwhile, officials say that the department is roiled by infighting between career officials and political appointees, leading to sudden departures and turnover.

Ross is already rumored to be on the outs with Trump, and the recent citizenship census question debacle is unlikely to help his case.

Ross responded to the story in a tweet Monday morning:

To be fair, laundering Russian money was a lot less exhausting than dismantling the entire Commerce Department. Maybe it’s time he follow the Boss’ lead and start snorting mega-doses of Adderall.

  3. Always disappointing when I read the obituaries in the morning and that old fossils name isn’t there

  4. Unfortunately, the people leaving in disgust are the ones holding the place together. The political appointees, who have the best job a nazi can hope for, aren’t going to fold until they are dragged out, roots and all.

It will take a generation to repair the damage of this administration.

  5. He’s not struggling to stay awake in the meetings… It’s just that the animatronics are so old that the lead weight counterbalance that’s supposed to keep the eyelids open regularly malfunctions.
