Tony Perkins: Rick Perry Camp Cleared Anti-Mormon Pastor Robert Jeffress

Tony Perkins

Family Research Council President Tony Perkins said late Friday that an anti-Mormon pastor who introduced Texas Gov. Rick Perry at the Values Voter Summit was cleared by the Perry campaign.

“He had been suggested and we passed that along to the Perry campaign,” Perkins told TPM and Slate’s Dave Weigel. Perkins confirmed that the Perry campaign signed off on Robert Jeffress to introduce the presidential candidate.

“We believe in the First Amendment, they have the right to speak. He spoke, that’s not the views represented by the organization,” Perkins said.
