Cain Says Romney Is Not A ‘Staunch Conservative’… But He Supported Him In 2008

Herman Cain

Herman Cain pulled a Rush Limbaugh Friday and attacked Mitt Romney for not being a conservative.

Like Limbaugh, this was a bit a of a flip-flop for Cain — in 2008, he endorsed Romney for the GOP nomination. His reasoning? “Leadership substance.”

“Mitt Romney’s history is more indicative of the substance needed to make major progress on critical issues, and not just to make more politically palatable incremental changes in Washington D.C.,” Cain wrote in a 2008 column.

Pair that with the way Cain feels about Romney’s major leadership accomplishment — the Massachusetts health care bill — today:

“I don’t think he’s a staunch conservative because he’s changed his position on too many things over the years,” Cain told radio host Michael Smerconish, according to Politico. “The other thing is, if you just look at Romneycare in Massachusetts, no matter how much he tries to pretend that it was supposed to be good for Massachusetts, a conservative would never have signed that Romneycare legislation in Massachusetts.”

  1. Jeeesh…Since Hermain Cain died last month, he’s had more to say than he has had to say the previous seven years!
