Deputy Treasury Secretary Neal Wolin said today that it’s “premature” for the White House to say whether President Obama will veto financial reform if the Shelby Amendment is included in the legislation.
Wolin spoke at today’s press briefing, and was asked whether the President will veto the bill if it includes an amendment by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT).
Wolin said the White House is “continuing to work with Senator Sanders, Senator Dodd and others,” adding that “we’ll move forward in those discussions before we get to any discussion about vetoes.”
He was also asked the same question regarding Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL)’s amendment, and said “we don’t expect that the Shelby amendment will pass,” so “the question of veto is something that’s premature.”
