WikiLeaks sent out a media advisory to many outlets warning reporters not to publish stories based on a list of 140 “defamatory falsehoods” about its founder Julian Assange, according to a Sunday Reuters report.

“There is a pervasive climate of inaccurate claims about WikiLeaks and Julian Assange, including purposeful fabrications planted in large and otherwise ‘reputable’ media outlets,” the email said.

Per Reuters, the “falsehoods” include serious claims, like that Assange has worked for Russian President Vladimir Putin, and less serious ones, like that he bleaches his hair.

  2. Sure, whatever asshole.

As someone who lurks around lots of tech sites, this scumbag and Super Thief Snowden are barely mentioned anymore, now that the marketing sheen of “exposing the truth!” has proven to be as bogus as a tech guy’s ability to have a girlfriend.

Other items listed as false and defamatory included more personal claims including that Assange bleaches his hair, that he is a hacker, that he has ever neglected an animal or that he has poor personal hygiene.

I don’t know what these tools are aiming to accomplish with this clownish communique, but saying “we’re warning you, don’t say our dear leader smells bad” probably won’t have the desired effect.

  5. Wikileaks tells journalists not to publish something. And the reason they give is concerns about “accuracy”. And they say these things with a very earnest straight face.
