The White House was put on lockdown around 3 p.m. ET Wednesday after an “unattended package” was found in a nearby park, Reuters reported, with the “all clear” coming less than an hour later.

The security lockdown was triggered when a suspicious package was found in Lafayette Park, a Secret Service spokeswoman said. Washington, D.C. fire fighters and a bomb squad were on the scene.

ABC News reporter Jon Parkinson tweeted the package was “declared safe” and all was clear at about 3:40 p.m., citing Service Service spokesman Brian Leary.

President Obama was not in the White House during the lockdown, and was pre-scheduled to visit wounded veterans at Walter Reed hospital.
