President Donald Trump is undecided as to whether he’ll declare a national emergency in order to build his desired wall across the southern border, The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday, citing unnamed “top administration officials.”
Trump and others in his administration have admitted that he is publicly mulling declaring an emergency to construct the wall, which would immediately draw legal challenges and uncertainty regarding how such a declaration would actually lead to wall construction.
White House Communications Director Bill Shine told the Journal that Trump’s scheduled primetime address Tuesday night “is expected to last between seven and eight minutes,” in the Journal’s words.
Unnamed officials told the Journal that there “is little expectation” that a funding deal will be reached in the coming days, given Trump’s demand for $5 billion for a border wall.
