White House aides are so unconcerned about the specter of impeachment that they don’t even have a plan in place to handle proceedings, should the House start them, an administration official told Politico.

White House aides reportedly think that Democrats wouldn’t take such a politically risky gamble with a move that has next to zero chances of working, thanks to the Republican-controlled Senate.

“She seems keenly aware that if they launch impeachment now, it will guarantee [Trump’s] reelection in 2020,” an administration official said of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).

Instead, Democrats are turning to further investigation of President Donald Trump’s conduct in the wake of episodes revealed by the redacted Mueller report.
