During a speech at an inauguration event for Alabama state Attorney General Steve Marshal, ousted Attorney General Jeff Sessions made a lukewarm joke about his tumultuous time serving in President Trump’s administration.

“Do the right thing every day and usually things will work out — but not always,” Sessions said, according to a local ABC affiliate. “Usually they work out. I told someone at least in the United States, they fire you, they don’t shoot you.”

The ousted attorney general agreed to do an interview with the local Alabama TV station, but told the ABC affiliate that he wouldn’t answer a number of questions, including any about President Trump or his firing.

“Sessions limited his one-on-one interview with ABC 33/40 to only questions about the attorney general’s office in Montgomery, as we were at an event honoring (state Attorney General) Steve Marshall,” the station told viewers, according to a video flagged by Mediaite.
