Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) fired back at former DNC chairman Howard Dean on MSNBC today over Dean’s comment that the current health bill is not “real reform” — something Rockefeller said characterized as “irresponsible” and “nonsense.”

Rockefeller also said that “coming from [Dean] as a physician it’s stunning. And he’s wrong.”

He continued:

Look, I come from West Virginia, I represent them. This will be good for people. Am I angry that the public option appears to have been dropped? Of course I’m angry about that. I proposed the original bill on the floor which was the really tough one.

“So what do I do? Do I take my football, and run home and sulk, and complain, or hold out for $100 million for something in West Virgina? No, I look at the entire bill and see what is in the general interest of the people in my state, and the people of America,” Rockefeller said.

That last part appears to be a not-so-subtle jab at Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA), whose state got $100 million in federal Medicaid aid in exchange for her support for the bill.
