RNC Research Director Jeff Berkowitz has left the Republican National Committee, Politico reports, as the group’s staff shakeup continues.Berkowitz’s departure became official Friday, although Ben Smith reports that it is still unclear if he was asked to leave or forced out. A source tells Smith that Berkowitz’s deputy, Matt Moon, has also left the committee.
Berkowitz headed the RNC’s research department, and had worked in a similar capacity during Rudy Giuliani’s presidential campaign.
The RNC has lost or dismissed a number of staffers in the wake of recent spending scandals. Berkowitz’s departure follows that of Chief of Staff Ken MacKay and Finance Director Rob Bickhart, among others.
