Rep. Peter King (R-NY) said that this morning he is ‘leaning against’ a run for Senate, citing his plum position on the House Homeland Security Committee.

On Good Morning America, George Stephanopoulos brought up the recent annoucements that two Democratic Senators will retire this year, which he says could create a lot of “opportunities” for Republicans. Stephanopoulos then asked if King would consider a run for Senate in New York.

King responded: “I’ll be deciding in the next week or so, but right now I’m leaning against it to be honest with you.”

He continued:

I’m in a position in the House of Representatives, being on the Homeland Security Committee which means so much to New York, to New York City, to Long Island. And I think we’re going to take the House back this year, which would hopefully make me the Chairman of the Committee, and I’d be in a position to get more done. So right now that’s where I’m leaning.
