In today’s annals of awkward timing, President Obama flew to Albany today to speak to a community college in Troy, N.Y., just after the New York Times reported Obama is urging Gov. David Paterson to give up on re-election. Greeting Obama on the tarmac? The governor himself.
The press pool reports (and photos show) that the two embraced in an awkward hug outside of Air Force One.
On the way, Press Secretary Robert Gibbs told reporters that he wouldn’t add to the New York Times stories that Obama has been secretly pushing Paterson not to run for governor next year.
MSNBC’s Chuck Todd reports that sources tell him that the president expressed “some regret” to Paterson about their conversations becoming public.
