President Obama was heckled by gay rights protesters last night during a campaign fundraising speech for Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA).
Several protesters interrupted Obama’s speech to show their anger over the slow progress on repealing “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” — the military’s ban on gay service members.
“What about ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell?'” one yelled.
“We are going to do that,” Obama replied.
The protesters continued making noise, and the president had to raise his voice to speak over them. The crowd then began chanting, “Yes we can.”
“It’s time for equality for all Americans!” a protester yelled later. The president responded, “Can I just say again, Barbara and I are supportive of repealing ‘Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.'”
The protesters kept yelling, bringing the president’s remarks to an end. The crowd responded by again shouting “Yes we can!” over the protesters.

The protesters were reportedly from GetEQUAL, an LGBT group that orchestrated protests outside the fundraiser. The same group was behind a protest last month outside the White House, where gay rights activist Lt. Dan Choi was arrested after he handcuffed himself to a gate.
