WASHINGTON (AP) — The National Archives is canceling reservations for late afternoon and evening tours due to automatic federal budget cuts taking effect.
Starting Friday, visitors who reserved timed entry tickets for later than 4:45 p.m. will have to reschedule. Some visitors made advanced reservations through the website Recreation.gov and can reschedule on the site.
Officials announced this week that operating hours at the archives would be reduced because of the budget cuts.
The archives usually offers extended hours between March 15 and Labor Day to accommodate crowds during Washington’s tourism season. Exhibits were kept open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Now those extended hours are being eliminated. Exhibits will be open 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Archives research rooms in Washington and in College Park, Md., also will have reduced hours.
