OMB Director and soon-to-be acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney’s words keep coming back to haunt him.

Discovered by CNN, a radio interview the then-congressman did in October 2016 reveals his thinking on candidate Donald Trump after the publication of the infamous Access Hollywood tapes.

“Everything the guy’s ever said is on a videotape or an audio tape,” he said on the Jonathan and Kelly Show, a South Carolina-based program. “There is going to be some atrocious things that are gonna come out.”

He added that he didn’t think much of either candidate, and thought neither Trump nor Hillary Clinton made good “role models.”

“In an ordinary universe, would both of these people’s past activities disqualify them for serving for office? Yes,” he continued. “But that’s not the world we live in today. The world we live in today, it’s either him or her and for me that’s still an easy choice.”

The Daily Beast first reported Saturday that Mulvaney talked smack on Trump on another occasion, during a debate. “Yes, I am supporting Donald Trump, but I’m doing so despite the fact that I think he’s a terrible human being,” Mulvaney said at the time, as recorded by The State.

A Mulvaney spokesperson told CNN that the comments are “old news” from before Mulvaney knew Trump, and that he now “likes him” and “likes working for him.”

Trump has not yet reacted to the comments, though he has a historically low threshold for criticism or perceived disloyalty.
