Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) accused Democrats of moving the “goalposts” on Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation process, and said the Senate would vote “this week” on Kavanaugh’s nomination.
On Friday, Sen. Jeff Flake’s (R-AZ) spurred a reopening of the FBI’s background check into Kavanaugh by offering his support for Kavanaugh in the Senate Judiciary Committee, contingent on a floor vote being delayed for further investigation of sexual assault allegations against Kavanaugh. Before the Flake-prompted delay on Friday, the Senate was scheduled to vote on Kavanaugh’s confirmation on Tuesday.
Flake has said he will vote against Kavanaugh if the judge is proven to have lied during his confirmation hearings, though evidence already exists that Kavanaugh did lie.
McConnell on Monday also falsely accused Democrats of complaining of having “too many documents” to review in Kavanaugh’s confirmation. In reality, Democrats complained that they were given tens of thousands of documents with just hours to go before Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings.
