Despite her vote against Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the Supreme Court, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said he was “proud” to have Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) in the Republican conference and “nobody’s going to beat her” in a future election.

“She’s certainly going to recover,” McConnell said during an interview with the Associated Press on Wednesday. “This is a woman who got in with a write-in vote in 2010. She’s about as strong as you can possibly be in Alaska. Nobody’s going to beat her, I’m proud she’s in the Republican conference.”

That comes in contrast with what McConnell’s party has indicated about Murkowski’s future. During a recent rally, Trump told supporters that Murkowski would never recover politically from voting against Kavanaugh’s confirmation. The Republican Party in her home state is reportedly mulling whether it should punish her for her Kavanaugh vote.
