Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) said today that Republicans are going to try to repeal the health care reform bill, even the popular parts that they have previously shown support for.

McCain said on Good Morning America today that the bill “is terribly wrong for America,” and that despite “all this euphoria that’s going on, this inside-the-beltway champagne toasting and all that, outside the beltway the American people are very angry.”

He added that “we’re going to try to repeal this, and we are going to have a very spirited campaign coming up between now and November, and there will be a very heavy price to pay for it.”

Host George Stephanopoulos pointed out that McCain just said that Republicans liked some parts of the bill — and that they were actually popular with the American public.

McCain responded: “We want to start over, as we’ve said.”
