A former employee of conspiracy theorist Jack Burkman admitted in court on Monday that he tricked Burkman into meeting him at a D.C.-area parking garage and then proceeded to shoot Burkman twice in the buttocks, according to the Washington Post.

Kevin Doherty was sentenced to nine years in state prison for shooting Burkman (pictured above) and running him over with an SUV, as the Washington Post reported. Doherty reportedly said in court during his sentencing hearing on Monday that he posed as informant and agreed to hand over documents to Burkman in the parking garage of a hotel in Arlington, Virginia. When Burkman exited his vehicle and went to retrieve the supposed documents, Doherty said he shot Burkman in the buttocks and then tried to run him over with an SUV.

Burkman, a notorious conservative conspiracy theorist, had hired Doherty to help him prove his baseless conspiracy theory that the Democratic Party was somehow involved in the tragic death of DNC staffer Seth Rich. Burkman and Doherty apparently quickly had disagreements on the project and Burkman ultimately fired Doherty.

Burkman was also behind a bizarre attempt this year to accuse special counsel Robert Mueller of sexual harassment, a conspiracy theory that quickly fell apart.
