Jon Stewart on Wednesday turned his attention to a local story: the special election in New York’s 9th district for a House seat that most recently belonged to Anthony Weiner.
The district includes parts of Brooklyn and Queens and has long been a Democratic stronghold. It hasn’t sent a Republican to Washington since 1923.
“Eighty-eight years,” Stewart said. “The last time that the 9th district had a Republican congressman, Harlem congressman Charlie Rangel hadn’t even started his 15th congressional term yet.”
But after Republican Bob Turner won the election against Democrat David Weprin, there could only be one explanation…
“The Democrats lose a congressional seat they held for 88 years,” Stewart said. “The Great Depression couldn’t wrestle the seat from their hands, World War II, the Red Scare, even the Reagan revolution. The only thing powerful enough to drive a wedge between the Democratic party and their constituents in the 9th district was … Anthony Weiner’s cock.”
