Sen. Doug Jones (D-AL) faced a heckler armed with props Monday night, as she lovingly shouted that he could “kiss her ass” if he votes for Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh — and almost beaned him with stuffed lips.
According to a Monday Birmingham News report, the woman expressed her frustration during a town hall meeting that Jones hasn’t said definitively that he’ll vote against Kavanaugh.
“You have enough information. We love you. But you will vote no. And you have enough information to vote no,” she said before tossing her pursed projectile. “You can kiss my ass if you vote yes. You can kiss my ass if you vote yes. You can kiss my ass.”
When the police escorted the woman out, Jones said that he appreciated her “passion.”
“There are people that don’t fully understand the fact that I don’t have all those documents. The Judiciary Committee does, and there are people that don’t understand the role of the Constitution is being an independent voice,” he said.
“I know she’s passionate about [Kavanaugh]and I appreciate it,” he continued. “There’s just as many people passionate on the other side, so that doesn’t make it real easy.”
Ah, can’t say that I blame her considering she stands to lose significant rights if Kavanaugh is confirmed. And I guess Jones has to play the game in deep red Alabama, but it would be very disappointing if he doesn’t get to a no. In fact, he’ll lose significant Democratic support and lose the next election in a landslide, I would think, if he doesn’t.
He will probably lose his next election no matter what. He might as well do the right thing since he will be punished either way. It’s not as if he’s Manchin who can potentially triangulate his way to reelection. This is Alabama we’re talking about and he won on a wonderfully fluke circumstance.
More importantly the United States will be saddled with a Supreme Court justice that essentially thinks the office of the president is above the law.
I’m with her.™
